Forthcoming events…

Fixtures Secretary, Mark Murrell, signposts upcoming activities, both in Club and external…

It’s a tie at the top of NCCL Division C with NC4 and NC5 in a play-off at the Club on 4th June in as-many-boards-as-we-like decider to become U130 Champions, a first for Wanstead.
If you were graded U130 back in July and do not want to play in the Sam Black blitz (below) sign up with Nigel, Rafa or me. 21 of you have played for team 4 and 25 for team 5, now is your chance to win the League! An ideal way to end the main season particularly for those of you graded U100.

Wanstead are also Champions of the Essex League and the inaugural Essex Minor League as well as having retained the NCCL Division A club’s knockout, the Lawrance Cup (Wanstead 4 being runners up in the Finchley Cup for the rest).

It’s a play-off too in the Club Championship with Manuel catching the long standing leader and new Junior Champion, Kyan, in the final round after Kyan held double champion Partha to a draw. Play-offs now set for Thursdays 6th and 13th June. Both games will be broadcast live on this website… look out for the link soon.

In the Essex Knockout first round:

  • Wanstead A travels to Barking B on Thursday 20th June;
  • Wanstead B are at home to Thurrock on 25th June; and
  • Wanstead C travel to Writtle on 26th June; win or lose it’s a Bye into the Semi Final of the Cup or Plate.

Entries for the Summer League close on 3rd June and fixtures will follow.

On June 4th the Club hosts the Sam Black Memorial individual blitz. 6 double rounds of G5 chess. If you wish to enter this event which has been known to attract the odd GM, enter direct with Gary Cook at http://www.northcircularchess.co.uk/samblackentry.html NCCL entry fee payable but no club board fee.

Speedy weekend On 29th June we have teams in each of the team average grade sections (180, 150 and 120) of the new SCCU & London Clubs Team Rapid (G25+5). Let me know if you wish to play. On 30th June morning, two or three teams compete in the ECA Team Blitz (G7) and in the afternoon, the individual ECA Lightning Championship (10 second buzzer).

Finally the Essex Individual Rapid (G20+10) Open, Major U150 and Minor U120 takes place in Writtle on 16th June. This is an Essex closed event.
