Clearly Div 2 is a bit of a come down with only the top four boards giving a hint of the riches at their disposal, including two FMs, plus David Sands on Board 3 and Sasha Preslavstev on Board 4. East Ham won their first match 7-1 against Dulwich, yet the Wanstead team assembled by Keith Jones was just 15 rating points below. However, the mystery is that while East Ham have 18 registered players are over 2000 – including two IMs and another FM, with David Sands at board 8 and Sasha as first reserve – only five of these 2000+ players have appeared in their first two fixtures.
A fine result by John Cawdery taking out FM James Vigus backed up by David Spearman’s draw with Sasha and Steve winning with Black against Raj Mathompat. The Wanstead tail wagged to good effect, Philip sharing the point with an unknown quantity, Aakarsh Boswan, who does not yet have ECF membership nor an ECF rating record, but a “local” rating of 2152. Ashwin GK rounded off the 4-4 result with a win on bottom board.
We may see FM Stanley Badacsonyi again this season as he is once more registered by Brentwood in the Essex League.

One of the reasons for WW being relegation candidates last season was the number of highly-rated college teams in the division, namely three who finished in the top three spots, two of those now promoted. The one team we did manage to beat was Kings College London. Could we repeat the trick?
On declaration of the team sheets KCL were stronger than the team we met last season, but our task had already became much more difficult as WW Board 1 Ruqayyah had to drop out on the day due to circumstances beyond her control. Naturally, everyone had to move up a board and your correspondent was drafted in as reserve.
Partha, David and Steve all did well to share the point with their higher-rated opponents. Beyond that, the reserve scored our only win, given below.

One of the reasons for WW being relegation candidates last season was the number of highly-rated college teams in the division, namely three who finished in the top three spots, two of those now promoted. The one team we did manage to beat was Kings College London. Could we repeat the trick?
On declaration of the team sheets KCL were stronger than the team we met last season, but our task had already became much more difficult as WW Board 1 Ruqayyah had to drop out on the day due to circumstances beyond her control. Naturally, everyone had to move up a board and your correspondent was drafted in as reserve.
Partha, David and Steve all did well to share the point with their higher-rated opponents. Beyond that, the reserve scored our only win, given below.
