Essex League Division I: Wanstead II 4½-3½ Writtle. At Wanstead. Lightning strikes twice. The last time Wanstead II were in Division I was the covid-19 truncated 2019-20 season. Update to Club Members of positions vacant. NC1 had already retained NCCL A with their 5½-½ win over Ilford on 10 April. Now have only a 100% record to chase. EL3 v Southend 1 Away, postponed

Match: Friday 2 February, Southend 1 v W&W 3 – Essex League Division II postponedThere are scheduled train strikes across c2c and Greater Anglia on Friday 2 February; part of a week-long action by Aslef. Appropriately, we agreed with Southend that if the strikes were not called off by Friday 26 January, the match would be moved to Friday 8 March. Champions win high-octane encounter

The traditional Essex League challenge match Champions v The Rest has a chequered history, but whenever Wanstead are the Champions, the challenge is made. These affairs usually favour The Rest, but Mark assembled a star-studded line-up over 15 boards with an average of 1909 against The Rest 1832.
