Congratualtions to Mary Cawdery on her triple crown at the British Championships heading a success story for Essex. Mary achieved Girls Champion status in the U10 Blitz, the U10 Rapid, capping a successful British as U10 Girls Champion (at standard play), finishing =3rd in the process. All of our players had the Black pieces as is usual in a Simul. The British Championships start in Leicester on Thursday 20 July and run until Sunday 30 July. SCCU/London Clubs team rapid double champions After six rounds of unforgiving G25+5 rapid chess and, if it was not already hot enough outside, a nail-biting final round, Wanstead teams found themselves club Champions in both the Intermediate (team average not more than 1850) and in the Minor (team average of not more than 1600). The Junior Chess Coaching Club turned out in force this evening for their return to Wanstead House. Taking advantage of the continued prevention of meetings of the main club with an expanded three hour session, managed bubbles enabled 23 junior players to display at the first opportunity their enthusiasm for the game under the direction once again of Ben Harte and Mark Murrell.
