Website Calendar Page
In response to popular demand, the Calendar page has returned to the Club’s website. There was a Calendar page up until 2019-2020, but this disappeared following introduction of 4-digit ECF ratings. The two events are not actually connected, except for the Webmaster’s need to re-write the Results program – partly to adjust to 4-digit ratings, but more to adopt a new design of the software. The original program populated the site with team results and stats and also produced the Calendar page, with live results, etc. While the replacement version of Results has yet to be completed, the Calendar page has been re-created manually. This carries all aspects of the Club’s activities, League matches, Club individual events, etc.; keep track of what’s on and when.
Find the Calendar button in the main menu bar above.
Team Captain Vacancies
The Club is sorely missing SIX team captains. There is a truism: no captains, no teams. However, we seek to overcome that grinding piece of logic by entering the teams as voted for at the AGM, nonetheless. It behoves Members to find from among themselves, captains to run the teams. The team captain vacancies are:
Essex League
2nd team, Division 2, (6 boards)
3rd team, Division 2, (6 boards)
4th team, Division 3, (5 boards)
North Circular League
1st team Division A, (6 boards) – and the Lawrance Cup team 1
2nd team Division B, (5 boards) – and the Finchley Cup team 2
3rd Team, Division C, (4 boards) – and the Finchley Cup team 3
Members will nonetheless see that matches have already taken place involving some of these teams. How? By the generosity of Club’s elected Officer(s) in filling in as stand-in team captains in addition to the tasks for which they are already elected, i.e. doubling up to make sure the match fixtures are fulfilled. This/these Officer(s) is/are already acting in double or treble capacities (i.e. elected to more than one Office) so the requirement also to act as an unappointed team captain is an additional burden which Members should be ashamed to stand by and let happen. Please – don’t let this situation continue.
In a Club of some 60 members, surely we can find six of you to take on these captaincies? Don’t leave this to others, ask yourself: “is this something I can do?”. We are not suggesting that all members will be able to answer in the affirmative, but surely we can find six willing persons to take on these teams?
Are you interested in helping the Club in this way, but not sure what is involved? Help is available. Let us know if you are interested in accepting this challenge and we can talk you through what’s involved and help you find your feet in this new role. Team captaincy is rewarding when the team wins, but can be disheartening when the team loses, but that is the challenge. There is another reward: knowing that you are helping your fellow members to enjoy playing in matches against other Clubs and playing the game we all love.
The links below enable prospective skippers to see what’s involved with the fixtures for each team which needs a captain, i) in last season’s completed matches and ii) this season’s fixtures, yet to be played. (The links open in a new tab.)
If you would like to help the Club in this way, please speak to the Club’s Match Captain, Paul Barclay (Email him via the Contact Form – select “Match Captain” from the dropdown).
