Thursday 2 January 2025 The New Year at Wanstead & Woodford Chess Club started with a bang with a breath-taking evening of speed chess, embracing two games of Rapid at G10+5 in the all-Wanstead Finchley Cup semi-final (WW2 v WW3) followed by a searingly hot Blitz of 9 rounds at G3+2, all squeezed into a throbbing three hours; firworks a-plenty! Hogmanay Festive Gala Night

A Festive club night added to the 2025 calendar to launch the New Year and the reopening of Wanstead House after the festive closure. Entries are now open for the Southend Easter Chess Festival 2025 which takes place from 17-21 April 2025, at Southend Adult Community College, Ambleside Drive, Southend-on-Sea, SS1 2UN. The Festival embraces the 6-Round Rapid on Thursday 17 April, followed by the 7-Round Congress from Friday 18 April to Monday 21 April. The Dark Side was abroad tonight

The two North Circular League home fixtures for Wanstead teams on a sodden gridlocked evening came close to being a double disaster for the Home sides. All four teams showed great perseverence to reach the venue and ensure no defaults. Calendar web page returns; Team skip vacancies

Website Calendar Page In response to popular demand, the Calendar page has returned to the Club’s website. There was a Calendar page up until 2019-2020, but this disappeared following introduction of 4-digit ECF ratings. The two events are not actually connected, except for the Webmaster’s need to re-write the Results program – partly to adjust to 4-digit ratings, but more to adopt a new design of the software.
