2024-25 U1650 Ladder Champion – Ibrahim Ali
This is a “W&WCC closed” event – open to Members only.
The popular Ladder competition is a standard-play event for members rated below 1650. It is a play-as-you-please event based on “challenges” made. Members rated under 1650 may join the Ladder at any time. All games are submitted for ECF standard play rating.
The 2025-26 Ladder Competition runs from Tuesday 16 September 2025
Players make progress by beating players above them on the Ladder. A player may challenge a player up to five places above them on the Ladder. Challenges should be accepted or players may fall foul of Rule 17:
17) Any player who in the opinion of the Tournament Secretary unreasonably declines a challenge shall be relegated to the bottom of the ladder.

The entry starts in reverse rating order, so the strongest players begin at the bottom! The player on the lower rung in each game has to win to make progress, moving up to take the place of the higher placed opponent, who moves down one rung.
To win the Ladder tournament entrants must be on the top rung of the Ladder at the finishing date. The winner holds the John Langford trophy for a year.

Ladder games counting towards the Roy Wagstaff Memorial Shield 2025-26
The results of games played in the Ladder competition count towards each player’s Match record in the Roy Wagstaff Memorial Shield for 2025-26, for games played between 1 June 2025 and 31 May 2026 inclusive. These records therefore include games played in the 2024-25 Ladder, in the period 1 June 2025 to 29 July 2025 (both dates inclusive). Note that three players in the table below show 0/0 but are included as they have entered the current Ladder competition, but have not yet played any games. This table is not to be confused with the current standings in the 2025-26 Ladder as it measures different criteria.
