We need your responses urgently so that we can enter viable teams. Teams do not run without captains, so if you are able to take on this role please indicate accordingly.
There is match chess available for players of all abilities.
Please note that the board fee at Wanstead House for 2023-24 for all activity was maintained by the AGM at £5 (Juniors £2 for non-JCCC junior members). There is no longer a Board Fee payable for our matches at Pimlico nor for any London League venue including the central venues at Mind Sports Centre and St Margaret’s House.
ESSEX LEAGUE (Division 1: 8 boards; Division 2: 6 boards; Division 3: 5 boards)

3 | Game | Increments with 3 hour 10 minutes minimum playing session. G80+10. Adjudication if not resolved at the end of the session. |
4 | Where | Essex clubs – Barking, Basildon, Brentwood, Ilford, Loughton, Southend, Thurrock, Upminster, Witham and Writtle. Division 1 plays Home and Away: Wanstead 1’s opponents are Barking, Basildon, Brentwood, Loughton, Upminster, Writtle. Lower Divisions may be Home and Away or a single round followed by further games among the top 4 (and also the bottom 4) with scores aggregated. Division 2 for Wanstead 2: currently has teams from Barking, Brentwood, Ilford, Southend, Thurrock (expected to withdraw), Upminster and Witham. Division 3 for Wanstead 3: currently has teams from Barking, Ilford, Loughton, Southend Thurrock and Upminster + possibly Witham. Wanstead 3 may be promoted. A fourth team may be viable. |

ESSEX MINOR LEAGUE (4 boards)
As per Essex League above save that it is a competition for players rated below 1650 and the average rating of the team must not exceed 1500. Currently teams from Southend, Thurrock and Upminster (both with 2 teams).
LONDON LEAGUE – DIVISION 2, 8 boards
However, there is scope with the League for team assignments to be changed, dependent on the result of this survey.

LONDON LEAGUE MINOR (4 boards)
As per London League above save that it is a competition for players rated below 1650.
CENTRAL LONDON CHESS LEAGUE (Div 3, 5 boards and Div 4, 4 boards) – PIMLICO (mostly)
These teams are intended to support our relatively recent younger generation of members with a combination of competitive chess in a more social setting.

NORTH CIRCULAR CHESS LEAGUE
A league comprising local Essex leagues’ clubs supplemented by Enfield and Chingford. Limited travel is the main attraction nowadays having lost some strong teams.

ESSEX COUNTY CHESS (Southern Counties Chess Union County Championships)
Members of the Club are members of the Essex Chess Association and are eligible to represent Essex. Wanstead House is the current home venue for Essex. The SCCU County Championships (Oct to Mar) determine the Union’s nominations of teams to participate in the ECF Counties Championships (Apr to early July). Participation in the national stages is NOT part of your commitment to playing in the SCCU Championships which are regional.
