The SOUTHEND EASTER CHESS FESTIVAL 2023, including the Southend FIDE Rapid and the 65th Southend Easter Chess Congress, has been launched on the Festival website. The Festival runs from Thu 6 April (Maundy Thursday) to Monday 10 April, at the Southend Adult Community College, Southend-on-Sea SS1 2UN, its home since 2014.
Last year, there was a strong congingent of a dozen Wanstead members who entered and all enjoyed the event. Let’s see if we can swell that number.

6 Rounds, G25+5 – Three sections, Open, U1700, U1400.
65th Southend Easter Chess Congress – Fri 7 to Mon 10 April 2023
Four traditional 7-Round sections G90+30:
- Southend FIDE Open
- ‘Leigh-on-Sea’ FIDE and ECF U1900
- ‘Westcliff’ ECF U1600
- ‘Thorpe Bay’ ECF U1300
Guaranteed minimum Prize Fund of £3,000
Simplified Entry Fee structure:
- Rapid (all sections) – £30
- 7-Round sections – £45

The ESSEX CHAMPIONSHIP and the ESSEX MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP will be awarded in the 65th Southend Easter Chess Congress to the highest placed eligible competitors in, respectively, the Southend FIDE Open and the ‘Leigh-on-Sea’ FIDE & ECF U1900.
The Congress will also host the SCCU Individual Championship 2022-23. The SCCU Champion receives the Trophy and a cash prize of £100. In the event of a tie, the title and the cash are shared.
