Wanstead II defeat Writtle

Essex League Division I: Wanstead II 4½-3½ Writtle. At Wanstead. Lightning strikes twice. The last time Wanstead II were in Division I was the covid-19 truncated 2019-20 season. In that campaign Wanstead II won away to Writtle by 4½-3½. Wind on six years and “the bees” sting Writtle again; consecutive victories! Read Mark Murrell’s stirring report on the EL2 page.

Wanstead II are now 4th of seven teams, above Writtle, Basildon and Upminster I.

Essex League Division III: Wanstead IV 3-2 Upminster II. At Wanstead. Pete’s team made it three from four against high-flying Upminster II. Wanstead IV sit 3rd in the table, but have two matches in hand over Southend II in second and five matches in hand against leaders Upminster II.

North Circular Division C: Enfield 3 2½-1½ Wanstead 3. At Enfield. Wanstead had a default point in hand at the start of the match but could add only John Jestico’s estimable half against Paul Gilberg who plays regularly for Enfield 1 and 2 and out-rated John by 330 points. James and Nigel were also well outgunned and came away empty-handed. Home win by the odd point.
