As we near the 80th Anniversary of the date of the celebration match, held Wednesday, 2 October 1946, to mark the Club’s move to Wanstead House, we have published a Feature article, uncovering some of the history, not only of the Club’s move, but of the Community Association which is itself celebrating the 80th Anniversary of its opening. Our repeat of the 2 October 1946 match will be on the day itself, this Friday, 2 October 2026. Mark has signed […]

The 82nd Club Championship gets under way tonight with publication of the Round 1 pairings. Fifty-one entries are listed and all have been circulated by Tournament Secretary, Mark Murrell: Our club championship is one of the largest such competitions in the country well supported by our membership regardless of playing strength. With the publication of Volume 3 Issue 10, originally published in July 1980, Volume 3 is complete. The Volume included 30 games by Club Members, bringing the total games published in First Rank for the three volumes to 76. Link: First Rank Volume 3
Open this post... I now have the complete First Rank to hand. The magazine ran for seven volumes to June 1984. While I am still missing one of my ring binders, I do have a number of spare copies, but was still missing three issues. Fortunately, Terry Whitton had retained all his copies so has been able to supply the three missing issues, so all will be complete. Latest issues published: Volume 3 Issues 7 and 8. I have located a copy of Volume 5 Issue 10 (a “Special Issue” – one of two), which take us to July 1982. Somewhere in my clutter, there is another binder (which accords to my recollection). In the meantime, publication has now reached Volume 2 Issue 5. Link: First Rank
Open this post... The opening volume of First Rank, having started part way through the season was completed with Issue 4. Serialisation of Volume 2 is now underway, with Issue 1 published today. Links: Volume 2

The first two issues have now been published, with the games given in those issues available for playing through on screen or downloading as a pgn file. More issues to follow as processed. Each […]
