Real Match Chess returns

W&WCC v Essex – 8 boards

After 17 months in abeyance WWCC returns to match chess this Saturday. Part of the Essex Chess Association’s Back to Real Chess Festival, eight players take on a scratch team from the Essex County squad. Each player from the opposition representing a different Essex Club. It should be a close match (ECF rated) with just 16 rating points separating the teams, competing at the leisurely rate of G105+15. The teams will be revealed at 12:30 pm.

The match is being played alongside the ECF County Challenge Minor match involving Essex 1600 and Hampshire 1600. Any club member who is interested in playing for one of our Essex teams (over-the-board or online) should contact Peter Nickals.

Challenge match W&WCC v East Ham

East Ham Chess Club, who we usually meet in the London League, has issued a challenge, which we have gladly accepted and scheduled for Tuesday 14 September. Four to six players are expected from the visitors for this ECF standard rated “friendly” match. The last visit of East Ham to Wanstead House was for our 75th anniversary celebrations as our first ever opponents. We will endeavour to field a team to match the opposition board-for-board. These days East Ham is a virtual club in the sense of a club without a home. Keep the date free. There will be social chess too.
