In this second season of the League’s return to over-the-board competition, last year’s split competitions (‘East’ and ‘West’) are being re-combined into one competition, using the teams as they were in 2019-20 as the starting point, with adjustment for Clubs who can no longer support any of their teams which were playing in 2019-20. The 2022-23 competition will, however, be split over two venues: “Mind Sports” in Hammersmith and St. Margaret’s House in Bethnal Green. The League could only function at reasonable expense by leaving Citadines Hotel; the two new venues combined are still less expensive than one evening at Citadines and, some will say, better venues for chess. The Club’s “Home” venue will be Bethnal Green.
However, we will have only two teams, whereas we had three before Covid. So we will play our first team in Division 2 (8 board teams) and our other team will be in the Minor Division (4 board teams).
Against this, we have entered a second team in the Central London League (Pimlico).
1st Team: Keith Jones
Minor Team: Terry Skippen/Mark Murrell
