Finding a way through the Tiers

Tiers there maybe, but W&WCC carries on.

Rule of Six is for the present kicked into touch. London and Essex are currently on Covid alert Level Tier 2 – High, meaning we cannot currently play OTB chess as indoor gatherings are currently banned. So how can we continue to meet? In a word: Education. In another word: Training. Education/Training is/are exceptions to the Tier 2 level restrictions. We can make a legitimate case that training is reasonably necessary for chess players – we run a regular training series during non-Covid times – so we are able to meet for training sessions, so long as social distancing is observed and the session is in “classroom” layout. Our normal precautions are still in place.

This Tuesday, 20 October, the presenter of the training session is Peter Nickals, with the intriguing subject “How to beat a World Champion – part 1” (though we understand this is not Peter’s caption). Hopefully all will become clear on Tuesday. If you wish to attend, you must, as usual, complete and submit the Attendance Form.

Meanwhile, to keep a check on your local Tier level and what you can do at the set level, there is a postcode check on gov.uk
