Lawrance Cup retained

The finals of the North Circular League’s rapid cup knockout competitions were contested on 21 July 2022 by teams from Barking and Wanstead, with both Cup Finals being played together at Barking, who fielded two near full strength teams whilst the visitors game plans were slightly disrupted by a couple of late withdrawals.

In the Lawrance Cup, a competition for clubs with first division teams, Barking held the rating advantage but only significantly on a single board, whilst there was nothing between the teams in the Finchley Cup, a competition for clubs with teams in the other divisions (pre-covid allocations were used for this purpose).

Both matches were nail-bitingly close with the Lawrance Cup Final being decided on tie-break (bottom board elmination) enabling Wanstead to retain the Lawrance Cup, while the Finchley Cup Final was decided by the odd point in favour of the Home team. Full details via the links below.
