Current Alert Level: National Lockdown – Stay at home
Update 4 January: Second national lockdown imposed for six weeks.
For information when meetings resume: Those proposing to attend our socially-distanced Club nights need to prepare and understand the requirements. We have put in place a number of precautions to make your visit as safe as we can, but be aware that there are no guarantees; if you decide to visit, you do so at your own risk.
There are three documents you need to be familiar with:
- Privacy Notice which has been updated to include Track & Trace, online activity and the change from grading to rating following the introduction of 4 digit ratings;
- Return to chess which includes Wanstead House rules at Appendix 3 and how to play with 2 boards;
- Socially distanced WWCC which includes the Club’s new attendance rules.
Until further notice, we are limited to an attendance of 18 in our Club Room. In the event of sufficient greater demand on any particular Tuesday to cover the increased cost, we currently have the option of hiring an additional room to meet such demand. For the avoidance of doubt, as indicated elsewhere in this page, the Club will NOT MEET under Covid Alelert Level Tier 3.

HMG’s Winter Plan takes effect from 2 December and introduces a new Tier system recognising a broader spectrum of permissible leisure activities, including organised clubs, but with a more restrictive Tier 3 that is more akin to a local version of the second national lockdown.
London, SW Essex and Kent moved into Tier 4 from 00:01 16 December 2020 until further notice. Under Tier 4 restrictions, the Club will not meet.
December to March – Winter Plan in operation
- The wearing of face coverings and social distancing of 1m+ will continue to apply to all Club meetings at least until the end of March 2021;
- The junior coaching chess club will be able meet irrespective of tier allocation in accordance with HMG guidance for activities for those U18;
- During this period restrictions affecting the Club will change with the assigned Tier. There are some modifications to our Covid rules that have gone before.
Organised and social two-boarded chess can take place along with classroom style education and training sessions. Chess playing will be within groups of six, with no intermingling between groups. Mingling within each group of six is permissible provided social distancing is maintained.
In addition to the Tier 1 requirements, chess playing will be restricted to organised supervised two-boarded chess only, with no mixing within any group of six (or between groups of course). Spectating is not allowed. Movement within the group should be kept to the bare minimum. Directions of the steward or event controller must be followed to avoid the risk of mixing.
Club meetings will be suspended in accordance with HMG guidance for group leisure activities.

When Club meetings are possible, to ensure that the attendance limit is not breached and to help the Club’s “Covid-19” sub-committee manage demand each week you must register in advance should you wish to attend the next session. Generally, this will be on a first come, first served basis, though if any one session is oversubscribed you will be able to indicate your next desired attendance so that we can cater for as many members as possible. We will continue to welcome new members. Parents will need to register on behalf of their child(ren) as safeguarding considerations and management have changed.

You will need to complete this registration form for each week you wish to attend.
Attendance data will be processed in accordance with the revised Privacy Notice and kept until 21 days after the end of the financial year or the completion of the independent examination of the accounts, whichever is the later.
Please endeavour to pay board fees by bank transfer (as well as your club subscription) so that cash handling is kept to an absolute minimum. The Treasurer will be able to reconcile advanced payments with the registration forms.
On completion of the online form you will receive a green notification on screen message so that you know that it has been received. You will be notified by a separate communication as to whether your application has been successful.
