Another splendid team performance

The skipper was pleased with “another splendid team performance” when the 1st team defeated Writtle away by a comfortable margin (5-3), with no draws, to maintain top spot in the Essex League Division 1 table. Having defeated the defending Champions (Barking) and Writtle – the most successful Essex League team in the last 25 years by a mile* – puts Wanstead in pole position, particuarly in this shortened programme with no return fixtures. But there are still some stern tests ahead in the New Year.

More success for the other two Essex League teams: EL2 defeated Thurrock 5-1 and in the Minor League, Wanstead defeated Upminster A by 3½-½.

* Champions in 17 Seasons out of 25 (with no competition in 2020-21). See ECA Archive
