Lightning Championship 2021-22

The Club Lightning Championship for 2021-22 will be held on 7 December 2021 in the club room, starting at 7.30 pm. In Lightning Chess a buzzer sounds every 10 seconds and the player on move has to move on the buzzer, not before, not after. Entry to the Lightning is via the usual Attendance Form for 7 December, or if you prefer to play social games and not enter the Lightning, complete the Entry Form and opt instead for SOCIAL. […]

October Friendlies

Two wins and a draw Three fixtures, in October, billed as “friendlies” were nonetheless keenly contested. With teams matched for strength, the Club emerged with two wins by the narrowest margin – against Hackney and the Warriors (W&W JCCC) – and a draw in the other, against Chingford. Announcing the Handicap Grand Prix for 2021-22 New members are in for another culture shock: the Handicap Blitz Grand Prix (“HBGP”). This is a five-event series, the points scored in each event aggregating for a season Grand Prix. Culture shock? you’ve heard of chess-boxing, well this is chess-arithmetic. It’s a thriller!

The second half of the Rapid Championship 2020-21 produced more thrills and spills than seemed possible in the three further rounds. The leader after R3, Philip Staniland, lost in R4 to Ashley, while Terry beat Steve Gilmour; Terry and Ashley =1 on 3½/4.
