Christmas Blitz

Last call to members for entries to the Christmas Blitz. With the House now being open for 20 December (today) we are organising a Christmas Blitz which will be submitted for ECF Blitz rating (new this year). The format will be dependent on the number of entries but will be a minimum of 9 rounds of G4+2 and a maximum of 15 rounds of G3+2 or somewhere in between. Lightning Championship 2022-23 The 37th running of our Lightning Championship, played annually since 1986-87 without a break, even for covid. The history of lightning tournaments at W&WCC goes back even further, before it was run as a championship. Gambiteer Blitz

Making use of a Tuesday with only a 4 board Essex Minor match in the calendar, Krishna Raikundalia devised and ran a very different kind of handicap tournament from that with which our members are familiar. An evening of Handicap Blitz once again proved a levelling experience, with several fancied players dropping points to lower rated opponents. Several new names were included in the list, one of whom, Ryan Colclough, spectactularly headed the table on 5/6, along with resident speedster, Terry Whitton. Blitz Championship 2021-22

The Club Blitz Championship, the first activity of the New Year, atrracted 24 entries and once again witnessed keen competition. After the final round, in which Istvan defeated John Cawdery, there was a tie for first place between John Cawdery and Istvan Karacsony on 5/6. The Blitz Champion is decided by tie-break.
