The unlikely Club Championship

Round 1 of the Club Championship – out of consideration at the start of a season spent mostly in lockdown – took place on 29 June in the spacious surroundings of the Boaden Hall at Wanstead House. We think this is the first time we have held a Club night in the Hall, the departure allowing the 12 games to be played in four groups of three single board games with generous spacing between groups. The results mostly went with the higher rated players, but new members Krishna (draw) and James (win) scored “upset” results. The entry for the 5-round tournament is a satisfactory 32.
