Wolves finish with a draw

The last round of the London Online League Season 2 paired us with our friends from Hackney – their Hackney Happening squad. While one of our number apparently wasn’t online, we managed to win 2-1 on the games played to finish with a drawn match. For the match details and all the games, click the link below. Whether we enter the third season which starts in three weeks’ time depends on the level of continued support for online play, with […]

Wolves win again

A headline not meant to suggest that the Wolves are on a roll, but a comment more in the nature of  “breathes again” of someone who has been holding their breath for a very long time. The Wolves’ only previous win in this competition was as long ago as Round 3. By contrast with the bleak fortunes of the previous week’s 4-0 debacle against Hendon Harriers, this week’s rare success – 2½-1½ against Hackney Hopefuls – was a more composed […]

All square

The draw in last week’s London Online League match against the then Division Leaders, Streatham & Brixton 2, was enough to knock them off top spot, as Hendon Spitfires were the only team in striking distance to win and took over top spot. East Ham Beagles, Wanstead Wolves’ next opponents, were 4th at the start of play. The match finished all square with draws from the top two and one win a piece in the other games. The team page […]

This left Keith Jones defending a NvB ending in which he was facing two passed pawns […]

London League Online – Season 2

The Club has entered another online competition, the London League Online, which has just started its second season. We might have entered the first season, but the notice of it came so late, we had filled our fixture list by entering the League of Mayhem. The second season of the London League online, however, neatly fills a gap between the current LoM and the 4NCL Online – each of which finishes their second season very shortly – and the next […]

Postponements and cancellations

The London Chess League have postponed ALL London Chess League fixtures until Easter (Fri 10 Apr-Mon13 Apr) due to Covid-19. However, we cannot see the situation being any better by then, so expect a subsequent upgrade to “for the duration”. That’s only the Website’s view, not LCL policy. There is a LL3 match tonight, which is OFF. And a further fixture this week, LL1 v Hackney 2, which is also OFF. Players in both matches DO NOT TRAVEL (all have […]
