Lightning Championship – 3 August

Tournament Secretary, Mark Murrell has managed to plan most of our regular season events, despite two lockdowns in the last year. The Club Championship is in progress, next up is the Lightning Championship, on 3 August.

For those new to Lightning chess, this is possibly a culture shock: a buzzer sounds every 10 seconds and the player on move has to move on the buzzer, not before, not after.

Entry to the Lightning is via the usual Attendance Form which, for 3 August, has an additional question in which members can request entry to the Lightning, or if they do not wish to enter the Lightning, opt instead to play social games. We will not be handling cash – save for usual Board Fee arrangements – so free entry to the Lightning and no prizes (save for the trophy for the winner).

Full details, including Lightning Rules, on the Attendance Form. Space is limited, so enter early so as not to be disappointed. We are permitted to have 18 people in Roding room, including the Controller (=eight boards, nine if the Controller also plays), Manor 8 (four boards), so a maximum entry of 26 can be accommodated for the Lightning. Social games in Warren.

The Summer’s events are listed in “2021 Summer Events OTB” linked below, or from the Activities menu above.
